Trends In Data Storage

Demand for data storage option is growing exponentially. Hence, advanced techniques for the same is being developed at a rapid scale. The jargon of storage has grown so wide that figures like zettabytes or domegemegrotte bytes are no longer fantasy figures. These trends of data storage technology are subsequent of emerging storage capacities and capabilities of storage devices.

However, due to these trends, there has been a massive shift from compatible disks to USBs, external hard drives, cloud and flash storage.

Here are the top emerging trends of data storage technology you should know.

1. DNA Storage

DNA storage is one of the most innovative technologies of data storage. This concept allows the system to store data in DNS molecules. The most attractive feature of this technology is that it has overcome the limitations of using silicon, achieving a high density and storage capacity up to 1 Exabyte. Also, DNA is sturdier with its life extension for more than 500 years. On the flip side, it is tedious, time-consuming to read, write on DNA and involves high cost.

2. 5D Crystal Storage

Being more realistic, crystal technology promises data storage in a minute and long-lasting glass structures. The crystals are made with lasers which encode data in microscopic structures of the glass surfaces. Huge amount of data can be stored in these crystals because all the five dimensions of quartz are utilized for storage. Therefore, this emerging technology is also known as a 5D tech. This is also called “Superman Memory Crystals”. Since crystal technology is at its initial stage, the exact assemblies and commercial patterns cannot be commented upon.

3. Block Chain Structures

When scalability of cloud storages is in question, block chain storage structures are the perfect answer. They are cost-efficient and are less prone to damages by disasters. The biggest advantage of block chains is that the data is spread over nodes and in case one of the nodes gets disrupted, a replica of data is automatically recovered from other nodes. This also makes it difficult for hackers to access the data. Also, each data file stored in node is encrypted by a key which makes this option more secure.

4. Multi-Cloud Storage

One of the smartest options is cloud storage. Storing and sharing data over multiple cloud services is helpful in reducing the risk of data loss and maximizing the benefits of cloud services.
As up-and-coming practices of data storage, distinct types, and services of cloud to avoid the problems of downtime caused due to cloud failures.

5. Helium Hard Drives

These are a novel solution to high capacity, energy efficient hard drives. Helium is considered best to encounter less resistance, increasing the density of the drives. Moreover, helium drives use less amount of energy and are dependable in nature.

6. Shingled Magnetic Recording(SMR)Technology

SMR technology increases the density of HDD by reducing the spaces and size of tracks used in HDD. SMR partially overlap the tracks together. However, budding SMR devices are so designed to read the data in smaller tracks as paralleled to the tracks used for writing the data. This mechanism allows the tracks to overlap and form shingles without upsetting the data quality.

No doubt many data storage technologies have developed so far, yet there is a terrible need to resolve the issues of data loss. And for data loss problems, data recovery services are the optimal solution.
